Theme for group presentation

The theme of our group presentation is based of privacy and security online. We choose to do our project on privacy and security because a lot of people are unaware of how unsafe their computers are.  Our presentation is broken up into 6 different parts teaching that class about some of the actions people can take to help themselves out and protect their identity. But the reality of privacy online it just doesn’t exist. There are so many different ways people can track your activity online and look at the same sites we are looking at. My segment was on Facebook privacy, and e-mail. The theme really helped me to present to the class that privacy online is very little. We are at risk every time we log on; from the information we put on social networking sites to the e-mails we send out.  Our theme really helped out the class to be aware of privacy online and some of the precautions we should take to help protect ourselves and our identity. Along with email, security and email fails to exist because of hackers. Our project was presented successfully. And we hope that the class is no aware of the risks online. 

Entertainment in 10 Years

Entertainment today is no longer based off of doing activities outdoors or simply playing a bored game. It has nearly become logging on to your computer and pulling up a social networking site to interact with friends. We see fewer kids outside playing in the streets or doing sports. You will find most of them inside the house glued to the computer or playing on a game console. Entertainment is being molded into virtual activities such as online gaming and social networking. We have yet to realize that all entertainment is now becoming virtual.  It has become a growing trend with entertainment being online or on TV. In 10 years, entertainment will no longer exist outside, the younger generations will be unaware of the terms “playing outside” or “going to the park”, and Children will only think to play games online or sit at the computer all day playing useless games or interacting with their friends online. We don’t realize that this where we are headed down a path of no form of physical entertainment. Society is enforcing virtual entertainment because consumers keep inventing new gadgets, games, and networking sites for kids. We don’t realize that these games are becoming a growing addiction. In 10 years there will most likely be no form of physical entertainment. 

What makes a Community

The components used to make up a community include people who share the same common interests and with those interests topics are brought up. Also the community includes  location interaction. Some examples and forms of a community are Facebook, Twitter, and Tumbler. These forms of community include rules, infrastructure accessibility. All of these details are essential in making up a community because without interaction no one will be able to have contact with one another. For example Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr are accessible from just about anywhere. A community makes up a group of people who interact almost every day the group is able to stay connected everyday. With social networking sites, a big community is built online without people having to physically interact with one another. And with the way online communities are growing and becoming more popular the infrastructure is going to change. Because more people are using networking sites building more online communities and using online webcam to in contact with each other rather than physically going to see each other. The community is growing more and more everyday with the rapid growth the community will start to change it's interaction, because more people will be giving input online and there will be more problems because of the capacity.

Presentation topic

1.    My 5 minute presentation topic I choose was a little device called an Air clicker. An Air clicker is a camera device used to take pictures rather than holding a camera or your smart phone. It is compatible with other smart phones and also a mac. I see the little gadget to  be helpful instead of caring around a camera. The device is fairly new and has very little consumer reports about it. There has been no complaints about the device. I would recommend the device to others because it cant be a good gadget for taking pictures on your phone with out having to carry around a camera. The lens comes with an off on switch, so the camera won't randomly take pictures. The nice thing about the Air clicker is it's small enough to take anywhere. The pictures it takes comes out as very good quality also. The product also comes at a very decent price. It is nowhere nearly as expensive as the other professional camera. Plus it links to the smart phone and Mac without a USB cord, it connects by Bluetooth. This would also make a very good Christmas gift. The device has no glitches yet so it is a good camera to have.

Net Worth information online

It was fairly easy to find information of my net worth online because now a days it is easy to access information online on anyone. it has been made easier for hackers to find us and try to steal our identity or let alone find out our net worth. All I had to do was do a little research on my name and my location and all of my information came up. It's easy to find any information on anyone's net worth online because the information is quick and accessible. The information that I was able to pull up, was my net worth, how much I make, and also my location and where I work. It's crazy to think that this information is easily accessed through the internet. Also I was able to find out the places of which i used to volunteer at in High School. Ironically the information that i was able to find of myself online was fairly accurate. Sometimes we need to be careful and realize what it is that we have online because it could potentially lead to hackers to people trying to take our identities. We should definitely pay attention to the information we put online also.

What items I prefer to buy online vs. Buying in stores

Certain items that I prefer to buy online instead of in stores are boots because online I can usually find them cheaper than at the store. Also because the deals online are a lot better than in stores. Sometimes the boots I find online usually not sold in stores. Another item that I usually buy online and have shipped to me, are parts I need for my laptop I prefer to buy the parts from online because they come directly from the company. Lastly when it comes to buying blue rays or DVD’s its better for me to order them online instead of in stores because they are a little bit cheaper online. And buying them online means I can get multiple movies for a good deal and have them all shipped directly to my house. Some daily items that I prefer to buy in stores, are clothes because when I buy them directly from the store so I can try them on and see which looks better. Usually I will never buy make up online either because I like to match the shades with whatever else it is I am buying. Lastly, another item that I will not buy online is jewelry just because it doesn’t seem smart to have it shipped in the mail to me. Because the downfall is what if it gets lost in the mail or stolen.

My experience creating an HTML page

 My experience with creating my second HTML page definitely jagged my memory back to a previous class we were also taught how to create a HTML page. But it was definitely a challenge because I read through the instructions too fast thinking I already knew what I was doing. But the first time I started to create the HTML code I was in a hurry and failed to notice my codes appeared to be wrong. So I had to go back and check every line and make sure I closed every line. This assignment really helped me to remember what I needed to do to create a HTML page. I used to be able to create a page with no problem because of a previous class I took, and I used to change the codes on my old “Xanga” page when I still had one. Also back when I used “MySpace” we would change around the layout of the page, the colors etc.. Also this assignment will help me to create more pages if I choose too. All in all, this assignment helped me to remember how to change everything so now I can play with the HTML codes on my other blog on Tumblr.

How e-mails and postal Services are the same

Using e-mail services have become very common now because everyone has access to the internet every where they go, also its easier to access than a mailbox while on the go. But a good things about the postal services, are you know when you receive an important document it cannot be deleted. But the downfall to using a postal service, is mail can get lost and delivered  to the wrong house. But with e-mail we can retrieve the e-mail if it has been sent to the wrong e-mail address. But at the same time with postal-service its illegal to open others mail. But using e-mail, anyone can open it and not get penalized for it which could also lead to information getting stolen. Both of these services are very helpful but there are many pluses and minuses to using them. Postal services are helpful for sending care packages and such. E-mail is generally being used for sending information halfway across the world, or used in a workplace. The switch to just using e-mail is starting take into affect because it's a lot easier for everyone to communicate and sending letters is starting to become out of style. It's very rare now to have a pen pal sending letters back and forth because of e-mail.

What I would like to learn in this class

Generally I would like to deepen my knowledge about the virtual world. For example learning more about how the internet works, and the history of the internet. Also how far we have come with technology and just how dependent we are on technology and the internet. Another issue I am interested in is how far privacy issue have come since the public has been so dependent on the internet. I would also like to perfect my skills in creating html pages. As a student entering this class with little prior knowledge to computers, learning more in depth about computers and the internet will help me as I continue on to furthering my degree in communications.
